Things in Marengo County got pretty exciting Friday afternoon for a short time. Marengo County Sheriff's Deputy Bryant Jones attempted to initiate a traffic stop on a vehicle with a switched tag on US Hwy 43 just south of Linden Friday. The attempted stop turned into a "10-100" which is police code for "Hot pursuit" or high speed chase. Deputy Phillip Myers attempted to stop the suspect at the intersection of AL Hwy 10 & US Hwy 43 at Dixons Mills, but the suspect managed to get through the roadblock. Other deputies and Sheriff Jesse Langley, as well as State Troopers and Thomasville Police also joined in the chase. Thomasville Police Department attempted to block Hwy 43 at O'Bryant's Chapel Funeral Home in Thomasville in hopes of ending the chase. The suspect managed to get through that roadblock as well. The chase continued US Hwy 43 south through Thomasville until it ended just south of Alabama Southern Community College on Hwy 43 when a tire blew out on the suspects car causing him to wreck the vehicle. The suspect was subsequently arrested, then transported to Thomasville Hospital for evaluation and treatment before being released to Marengo County Sheriff's Deputies for transport to the Marengo County Detention Center.
At this time, I still haven't found out why the suspect attempted to outrun the deputies or what all he has been charged with. More on this when I get more info.
Congrats to the Marengo County Sheriff's Department and other law enforcement agencies involved for bringing this high-speed chase to an end without causing harm to innocent civilians or themselves! Way to go guys!
