I am starting a different thread (no attempt at controversy)
Assume you are the Mayor, head of the industrial board or in any other position that should sell Demopolis! What would your selling points (statement) be. Open to Demopolis area members.
The statement should be I think you would love Demopolis because:
I will start the thread by saying:
I have lived here 40 years and 25 years ago, after closing a business due to bad economic times, I decided to move back to my home town and start a new business.
After spending four days researching everything from market possibilities to homes and schools for the kids I decided I loved where I had been (Demopolis) and felt a common bond with the people of the region and gave up the idea of relocating. The hometown was an area growing so fast, economically, you wouldn't believe it. And you wouldn't believe how it had changed.
I had left Atlanta in 1965 and moved to Demopolis (has Atlanta grown since then, Industry, Jobs, crime, traffic (enough). There is not enough money to encourage me to go back.
Please no negative comments, (we will have a thread for that later)
Just trying to create some positive post to the forum for the visitors (and residents.) If you must post a negative, please PM me.
I believe that you will love Demopolis. It is located near the confluence of two major rivers in Alabama that provide great recreational opportunities. The people of Demopolis love their historic town, and they are working to improve it. We have a major papermill and several smaller industries. We are working hard to attract other small industries, particularly those associated with the growing automobile assembly plants in Alabama and Mississippi.
Demopolis has an excellent public school system that is the envy of other towns of West Alabama. Additionally, the Bryan W. Whitfield Memorial Hospital in Demopolis is an excellent facility that provides basic and advanced hospital health care for most people in the area.
Come to Demopolis. You and your employees deserve our kind of town.

Thanks Joe.
I should add to my post, "Only first class companies should apply!
I love Demopolis. I am from California and have lived here 12 years. I have had chances to move back Cal. with my Mom and sisters but it's so wonderfull here. The first week I spent here was COTR week and I fell in love with the town and moved here a year later. I have a good job and I feel lucky to be here. I visit Cal but this is home.
My treasures do not clink together or glitter, They gleam in the sun and neigh in the night.

I have lives in Demopolis almost all of my life. I have lived in or near big cities (D.C.) for one and I would not wish to live anywhere but here. I love knowing my neighbors and that my kids have such a good school system to go through. Demopolis is growing by leaps and bounds and I think that is wonderful. When I was growing up I always said I would leave Demopolis and never come back. Now that I am an adult I couldn't imagine living anywhere else. I love Demopolis.....
I've lived in almost all four conrers of the state of Alabama before moving to Demopolis in August of 1988. Out of all the places I have lived, I like Demopolis and Marengo County the best. Got two rivers to play in during the summer. Plenty of fishing and hunting in the winter. Wet county, so I don't have to drive to another county to buy alcoholic beverages when I choose to imbibe. Demopolis is strategically located between several larger towns; Meridian 55 miles west, Tuscaloosa 60 miles north, Montgomery 110 miles east, Mobile 155 miles south, Birmingham 120 miles northeast, Jackson, MS 150 miles west. Couple hours drive to one of the bigger cities, yet I don't have to worry about being "gobbled up" in a suburb of one of the bigger cities in this lifetime! Met a lot of good people while I've been here, too! It's gotta be a good place to live, otherwise I wouldn't have stayed here all this time and wouldn't have moved back here when we left Panama City, FL.
Hwy Don, great topic..Selling Demopolis. Your son lives next door to my Dad, so you probably know who I am...
Just a thought, but I wonder if any businesses from New Orleans, or that area, have plans to relocate? I know I would if I owned a business down there.
I am planning on starting a business there in Demop. next year and will list a few reasons why. I guess you could call them selling points..
1. You can be a part of a Mayberry type community. Great place to raise your family in a safe, caring community.
2. Excellent schools..
3. Thriving church community- Here in Atlanta, my church membership is larger than Demopolis itself. We have been very active members since 1992 and still can go to chruch and not recognize anyone.
4. Instead of seeing airplanes in the sky at night, you can actually see stars!!
5. 2 18 hole golf courses!!
6. Excellent sports programs
7. The name itself sings.. Demopolis.. Sounds like home to me..
8. No Traffic!!!! Unless you get caught in a parade..
All I can think of off hand.. Thinking about seeing stars again makes me home sick...
What I love about Demopolis: The real sense of community. In most small towns, it's always about "what's best for me", or "how will this effect me". In Demopolis, the general consensus is "How will this help the community?" When most young folks in small towns are looking foward to moving away, most here can't wait to get back. I would not want to live anywhere else.
