Has the world famous Democrat - Reporter newspaper from Linden become just another grocery store tabloid? You know, this day and time, I just believe it should be in the grocery store news racks with such tabliods as "The Star" , "The Globe", and "The National Enquirer". Since Goodloe & Jean Sutton's day in the sun with the Roger Davis, Sonny Breckenridge, and the Uniontown Drug Cartel has subsided, Goodloe & Jean have had to stoop to taking front page news stories from known drug dealers and thugs. Just 2 weeks ago, Goodloe covers LPD serving a search warrant at a known drug dealer's house looking for stolen property. To try and distract attention from his own plight, Kommel "Kokomo" Scott starts hollering about a dirty search warrant and the LPD searching the wrong address. To add insult to injury, Goodloe interviews this known thug and drug dealer about his accusations and outright slurs Chief Jeff Laduron and the Linden Police Department all over the front page of his paper. Who would you rather believe: the Chief of Police Jeff Laduron who just received a commendation from the FBI in taking down former Linden Chief of Police & City Councilman Preston Bowden, or a known thug and dope dealer like Kommel "Kokomo" Scott? Now, had you or I done this, we would have had our ****es sued off for libel so fast it would make our heads swim. Goodloe can get away with it cause he's protected under the First Amendment of the Constitution guaranteeing all of us freeodm of speech. Goodloe gets away with it by calling himself a "reporter". What in the hell ever happened to responsible journalism? Did Goodloe even bother to ask Chief Laudron and the police officers their side of the story? Nope. Do you think he cares about their side of the story? Nope. To Goodloe, all law enforcement officers in Marengo County are just as dirty and just as crooked as Roger Davis and Sonny Breckenridge. I leave Robert Pickens out of this because at least he was man nough to stand up in court and admit what he did was wrong. Robert Pickens cooperated fully with federal and state investigators and told them what he knew. It took a man to do that....a REAL man, especially knowing the fact that after he is released from prison in a few years, he can never come back home to Marengo County. The crooks that be will kill him if he does return to Marengo County.
Another aspect of Goodloe's reporting is that he tells people only what he wants them to know in his paper. A lot of people who read his paper take what he says as the gospel. Well, let me tell you something. The Code of Alabama he's been quoting in the paper lately in defense of his big buddy Mayor Pat Vice is NOT what it appears to be. What Goodloe has failed to tell everyone about this law is that it only applies to cities with populations of 25,000 or more people. You can bet your bottom dollar if there was a shred of truth to Goodloe's rantings about how it is so illegal for the Linden City Council to strip the Mayor of his powers, he would have already had Atty. General Bill Pryor and his staff down here. They would have been here so fast climbing up the city council's ****, they wouldn't be able to poop for a month!
Then there's the issue where Goodloe is anti-Demopolis. Nothing is done right in Demopolis. Chief Avery is covering up arrests, the Mayor & City Council of Demopolis cover up theft of monies from City Hall, and Marengo County E-911 just can't ever seem to get it right. Well, Dave has already reported that Demopolis Director of Public Safety Jeff Manuel stated Goodloe's report about Chief Avery covering up Joe Johnson's arrest for harassment was a crock of *****! I can tell you that if Marengo County's E-911 system were moved to Linden that things would not be any better there either. I can remember when the Marengo County Jail (the old jail) had the dispatch center before E-911 even came around that mistakes were still made. As a matter of fact, a house burned completely to the ground here in Linden because a dispatcher / jailer (Ricky) didn't know how to page out the Linden Fire Department! If you listen to some of the dispatchers give out calls from the Marengo County Detention Center, some of them are not getting enough essential information to even begin to dispatch a call. They shouldn't be dispatching any calls from the Detention Center anyway! All those calls should be rolled to E-911 for dispatch. Thanks to Goodloe in his infinite wisdom, we have everyone in Marengo County so screwed up on who to call or what number to dial in an emergency, it's a million wonders any emergency call gets a proper response in this county!
I think Goodloe's bottom line interest is in the almighty dollar. Plain and simple, all he wants to do is sell newspapers and make money. He will stoop to the lowest of levels just to create a headline story that will help him sell just one extra paper. You know, I would think a hell of a lot more of him and his paper if he were performing responsible, professional, honest journalism rather than sensationalising and grand-standing to sell his papers. Kinda makes us wonder if all those cards and letters they are still getting about his Reader's Digest claim to fame are even real.
Tighten up Goodloe! Stick to the facts and quit slanting stories. The only fools and liars ever liked by the public were the court jesters back in days of olde!
