Demopolis Middle School Lockers

I just wanted to get some feedback on a problem my oldest
son is dealing with from day to day.
He goes to DMS and has classes on one end of the campus
and a locker at the opposite end. In addition to the massive
amount of books he has to carry around (parents you know what
I mean.) he also carries his trumpet. This is an all day, every
day thing. He has been written up several times for being tardy,
each occurance after going to his locker.
I have spoke with an administrator about it and was told that they understood and that there were over 100 other students in the same situation. Also Mr. Jackson, and Mr. Holman have been
aware of the situation since this summer. Is this true? The
children are given an "extra" 60 seconds to go to their lockers,
if they do not make it then they are written up. Why? How come
my son has to choose whether to go to the bathroom and carry his
books all day or go to his locker and still get written up?
Mr. Jackson and Mr. Holman, if you had to carry those books around all day, would you have a locker that far away? I don't
think you would.
Every day I hear about schools in Bham, Tuscaloosa, and Montgomery shutting down and combining with other schools. Where
do those lockers go? Having problem spending our tax dollars on
lockers? What about a fundraiser that would purchase some lockers? You force fundraiser down our kids throats every year and I have yet to see a note that tells us why they are doing it
and where the money is going.
My wife and I have joined the PTA now and want to know when the
next meeting is. I want this resolved one way or the other. At best I want these kids to have lockers in areas benifiting their
schedule or at the least an additional 5 minutes (not 1 minute) to get to their lockers after "every" block.
If this is an issue that the Parents (Dlive) speak up and let's do something. If we have to pester Mr. Jackson and Mr. Holman to get it done or if we have to raise the money ourselves through
some kind of fund raiser, lets do it!

Whenever I see an old lady slip and fall on a wet sidewalk,
my first instinct is to laugh.
But then I think, what if I was an ant, and she fell on me.
Then it wouldn't seem quite so funny.

Re: Demopolis Middle School Lockers

You will not pester Mr Jackson. He makes his own rules. He just whined enough to get a BIG raise. Because he did not get the DHS job. This is word on the street. I won't say what we went through at the Middle school. But there is problems; and its black and white, The board chooses to turn the other cheek. Just watch and listen. You will hear and see it. Trust me.

Be ye fishers of men, you catch'em he'll clean'em.

Re: Demopolis Middle School Lockers

When I was in school we had 5 min between classes and our school was not as big as DMS. But even with 5 min we were still tardy, but that is because we were talking and what not, LOL. Geeze and they have 60sec.

I had to stop and ask self,"Do I really need to be here", and self says,"Only in the cover of darkness."

Re: Demopolis Middle School Lockers

I have heard several parents and children from DMS complain about this situation. However, I don't know of a way that will help fix the problem. If more lockers will help I am more than willing to support any fundraiser to finance the additional lockers. I totally agree that children should not have to sacrifice going to bathroom or going to their lockers.

Re: Demopolis Middle School Lockers

i hear MONKEY TOES complain about it every day, he needs more time to get to his locker and when i went to school it was the same thing, more time is needed, how in the world are you supposed to make it to ur locker when its all the way on the other side of the school as ur classes? and then on top of that what if by chance you would have to go to the bathroom? ur gonna be tardy no matter what you do, give them a few extra minutes. MONKEY TOES has to carry around his trumpet all day so he doesnt get tardy, and hes tardy for the same class all the time, and the only reason is bc he was assigned a locker on the other side of the school, im sure the same things are going on with other students.

It sounds like a little rescheduling needs to be done! Scream LOUD...someone will listen!

The smallest good deed is better than the grandest intention....So, today and everyday, I'm going to go out of my way to do something kind for someone.

My son is in the sixth grade . He says they are not suppose to go to the lockers before school. Is that right???

Then what is the point of having a locker if you can't use it during the day.

Don't even try to talk to Mr. Jackson, it his way or noway at all. Had alot of problems with him when I was there.

A kid cannot get to one end to the other of that school in that little amount of time. Good luck with trying to figure out a solution, I hear Mr. Jackson can be a real @ss!

Re: Demopolis Middle School Lockers

i asked my daughter about this and she said she does not have this problem. she says they have 5 minutes between each class to go to their lockers. she says she usually has time to go to her locker and the bathroom if needed. however, her classes are in the same building as her locker except for one class. she says before school you can only go to your locker between 7:50 and 7:55 when the locker bell rings; however, she says that her teacher won't let them leave the classroom unless they get a pass to go to their locker. my question is why can't they go to their locker before they go to homeroom??? i can see where someone will not have enough time if their locker is in another building. i definitely think things need to be looked at at the middle school.
