I just wanted to get some feedback on a problem my oldest
son is dealing with from day to day.
He goes to DMS and has classes on one end of the campus
and a locker at the opposite end. In addition to the massive
amount of books he has to carry around (parents you know what
I mean.) he also carries his trumpet. This is an all day, every
day thing. He has been written up several times for being tardy,
each occurance after going to his locker.
I have spoke with an administrator about it and was told that they understood and that there were over 100 other students in the same situation. Also Mr. Jackson, and Mr. Holman have been
aware of the situation since this summer. Is this true? The
children are given an "extra" 60 seconds to go to their lockers,
if they do not make it then they are written up. Why? How come
my son has to choose whether to go to the bathroom and carry his
books all day or go to his locker and still get written up?
Mr. Jackson and Mr. Holman, if you had to carry those books around all day, would you have a locker that far away? I don't
think you would.
Every day I hear about schools in Bham, Tuscaloosa, and Montgomery shutting down and combining with other schools. Where
do those lockers go? Having problem spending our tax dollars on
lockers? What about a fundraiser that would purchase some lockers? You force fundraiser down our kids throats every year and I have yet to see a note that tells us why they are doing it
and where the money is going.
My wife and I have joined the PTA now and want to know when the
next meeting is. I want this resolved one way or the other. At best I want these kids to have lockers in areas benifiting their
schedule or at the least an additional 5 minutes (not 1 minute) to get to their lockers after "every" block.
If this is an issue that the Parents (Dlive) speak up and let's do something. If we have to pester Mr. Jackson and Mr. Holman to get it done or if we have to raise the money ourselves through
some kind of fund raiser, lets do it!
