According to State Superintendent of education Ed Richardson, all public schools in Alabama will be closed down in September if Bob Riley’s tax plan doesn’t pass. Last time I looked, our public school system is included in that equation. So what are we supposed to do if that happens? As of now, if the vote were held today it would fail. What Riley has to do is get down here and explain his tax plan to us. The average Joe or Jane is only concerned with one thing: How much more money will I have to pay out every year. That information, for starters, would be good to have. Threats of closing schools, firing teachers and policeman, etc aren’t going to work. Perhaps Richardson could figure out how much each school will need, and divide that up between each family with kids in school. At least this way we’d know what our money is being spent on. They could cut out the meal programs for this year (I’d rather my child be hungry and learning than not learning at all). Riley has done a terrible job thus far convincing anyone this tax increase is what’s needed for our area and for Alabama. I have no problem investing in the community and the state if I have hope of seeing a return on the investment down the road. I don’t want to agree to a tax increase, only to have the Governor in a year tell me school funding has to be cut again.

Rowser in jail, suing everyone she can.

Thedford “Tootie” Rowser was sentenced to serve five days in jail for contempt of court in Montgomery County Circuit Court. She previously had lawsuits filed against Kendrick Gilbert, Attorney woody Dinning, Jr, Judge Cindy Neilson, Judge Lillie Jones Osborne, D.A. Greg Griggers, Attorney Walter Griess, and Judge Wade Drinkard, but those were all dismissed by Circuit Judge Charles Price on May 17th die to Rowser not appearing for the court date. Rowser was in court on June 17th filing a motion for relief of the dismissal when she apparently disobeyed the judge’s orders and was found in contempt of court. Rowser was indicted on February 26th for illegally practicing as a lawyer and interfering with judicial proceedings. I haven’t heard any news about State Rep. Thomas Jackson attempting to defend Rowser as he did with the Hosea case. Somehow I doubt he’ll be showing up in her defense.
