i have some stuff saved on tivo. i also have a new dvd recorder. the recorder has to be on video 2 to work and the tivo has to be on regular tv. i dont' see how this can work. can anyone help me on that.

or could you tell me how to hook it up to my computer and record with my cd burner. my computer has multi media but no s video or rca jack on it. is there an adaptor or something that i could use?

please help i am running out of space to record programs.

You can record to your computer a few different ways. Depending on your Tivo model, some can plug directly to the PC with a USB cable. If not, you can get a card with video input and record the video to the PC, but then you get into editing or large file size.

I built a home theater PC before they were cool, its not too bad, especially as they have made the software more user friendly than the software I have.

Another option, your DVD recorder has inputs, correct? route the Tivo composite out into the DVD R composite in, change the DVD R box to that input port and record. Its the same thing as copying a VHS or plugging a video game system into the VCR.

i have the tivo routed into my dvd and then from the dvd to the tv. it is also asking to format the did and saying disc error. the dvd asks for r+ or rw+. my dvd's are r+. i don't know if that has anything to do with the disc error.

depends on the version of Tivo as to whether it will work or not. I know they disabled the USB connection with the DirecTV Tivo.

Try another brand of DVD +R discs. My brother and I were having the same problem trying to record stuff off of our DirectTV DVR with Tivo using Fuji DVD -R discs and it just wouldn't work. Bought some Maxwell blank DVD -R discs and haven't had any problems. I would definitely try that first before spending allot of money on an upgraded DVD recorder.

Okay I have a tivo question that is off topic from what you guys are talking about. My tivo is one of those directv 99$ deals and it fills itself up with crap I dont watch all day. Is there not a way I can make it only record what I tell it to? The huge book that came with it was not clear or Im not smart enough to figure it out.

brad you have to turn off the suggestions. got to the main dtv menu. or just hit left arrow. select new messages and setup. go to settings and then choose suggestions. there you can choose to not record suggestions. i had the same problem. that will take care of your problem.

again? hell i never read one. papa2 is the one that told me that. if it were not for him i would be real mad at my tivo as well.

my motto. if you can't figure it out you don't need it. i don't really stick to that of course.

Well, the manual won't tell you how to do this stuff as the manufacturers generally don't support it.

Google "directv dvr automatic recording" without the quotes, I've looked at it, but didn't mess with it. You can set it to skip certain channels, things, etc, with the autorecord feature.

As for the video 1 thing, I dunno. I need more info on your setup. PM me and we'll try to get some of this sorted over the phone or something.
