As previously reported on this webiste by Stickman, the Demopolis Dixie Youth Girls Softball League has discovered that someone in their midst has had their hand in the cookie jar to the tune of $8000.
The DDY-GSL board voted to keep it quiet and attempt to handle this among themselves. A couple of local attorneys who are involved as parents in the DDY-GSL were handling the legal work behind the scenes. Elizabeth "Buffy" Etheridge and Wayne Wommack, as parents participating in the league and concerned individuals, have come forward and filed a report with Demopolis Police over this issue. WSFA Channel 12 News was in town shortly after the story broke in the Demopolis Times trying to interview people on the DDY-GSL board to get comments. None of the board members would speak to the news crew. Wayne Wommack did speak to the news crew. He told them the details of who, how much, and how, and even let the TV news reporter look at the evidence!
It has been revealed that Rosemary Fish is the culprit who has taken the money from the Demopolis Dixie Youth Girls Softball League. I have been told by sources close to the investigation that the $8000 missing is just what can be proved by cancelled checks and paperwork. How much cash went missing is unknown to anyone but the one who took it and God above. It seems that some of the other parents on the board at the time had a bad habit of signing blank checks for Rosemary Fish to "pay bills" with. Now, I don't know about anyone else, but if my name is on an account with public funds in it and it takes two signatures to make that check valid, the check better be filled out completely, in ink, before I sign it! Rosemary Fish has since delivered a check to the DDY-GSL in the amount of $8000 in hopes that this would all go away.
At any rate, the Demopolis Police Department is still investigating the matter and at least one arrest, possibly more, is imminent in this case. I am hoping the Attorney General will be called in to investigate this case. I think where there's smoke, there's fire and Rosemary Fish may not be the only one smoking here!
BTW - THANK YOU!!! Elizabeth "Buffy" Etheridge and Wayne Wommack for standing up and speaking out about this terrible crime! It takes a lot of guts and integrity to stand up for what is right! Doing what is right doesn't seem to be in style in Demopolis these days.
