The River City Bike Association presented a check for $350 to Director Jeff Manuel of the Demopolis Department of Public Safety on Monday, September,15th. Apparantly the Department wants to start a fund drive to purchase portable heart defibulators for use in the fire trucks and patrol cars. These devices are quite simple to use and could save the life of a friend or loved one when they can't make it to the hospital in time. I urge individuals and businesses around town to contribute what they can to this worthy cause. This is just another way of contributing something back to our city.:)

Automatic External Defibrillators (AED) have been around for several years now and can be found in various public places such as malls, stadiums and industrial sites. Use of the AED is now a part of the American Heart Association CPR course. They are almost idiot proof.

Good question. I don't think anything is rabbit proof. What do you think Stick??

The AED units are very simple to use. They have two large pads that are connected to the machine by electrode wires. One pad is placed below the heart & one pad is placed on the upper right chest. The machine will advise if shock is needed & will monitor the patient for you. Don't know if i'ts "rabbit" proof, but almost anyone can use them. They should be a valuable device for for our EMS personnel.

Well, I don't know about Rabbit proof. As far as operation, you can teach a monkey how to use one, so I don't see why Rabbit couldn't use one. However, I can see him trying to jump start someone's heart in the middle of a gasoline spill or a propane gas leak.

Who knows, he might even try to jump start the dead ones he lets roll down the ditchbank!

Besides, from what I am understanding from EasyRider, these units will be placed in service in Demopolis, so Rabbit shouldn't be a consideration in this equation.

The AED's will no doubt be a valuable asset to the people of Demopolis. Even if one life is saved with an AED, it will make the purchase of these units well worthwhile!
