View Full Version : Rumor of coach leaving
I've read rumors that Coach Goodwin is possibly leaving Demopolis at the end of this year to take a job as head coach of Sylacauga. Personally, I can't see pulling Devin out his senior year, especially with the success Demopolis has had the last 2 years on the field.

This is false I talked to a reporter for the DR and he said he talked to him about this and coach said that the rumor is false. he said that he will be here until Devin leaves and then he will see what is out there, but for right now he is here in Demopolis.

The al live football forum is buzzing this past week with news of Goodwin leaving for Sylacauga and questions of Def. Co. going w/ Goodwin. Any one heard if rumors have any truth?

I checked over on the Al.com boards and saw many of the same posts. What i did not see was a source of the rumors

What about it dhsmom? You or Coach Goodwin care to comment on this for the record????
I just can't see this happening, at least not right now. Demopolis has to be the favorite to goto state and win next year. Devin has one more year of HS football. What they've done with the program here is nothing short of awesome, and the community loves them for it.

I will believe it when it happens. Everyone needs to remember Devin's best sport is not football, he is a hell of a baseball player. More than likely he will be one more of Coach Moody's players to move on to play college baseball.
As much good as the coach has done for the team and for Demopolis, the main thing he has to consider is what is best for his family.I'd hate to see coach go,but if that's what he thinks is best then I wish him the best of luck where ever he goes.

I agree rob. Coach Goodwin should not turn down an opportunity to move upward. Doesn't UA need some new coaches? UWA? I think he will be a great coach for that level.
More news on this:
The school board just increased Coach Goodwin's salary by $500 a month. Superintendent Wesley Hill admits he knows "Coach Goodwin has had offers from other schools". Goodwin has expressed appreciation for the raise, but hasn't stated, to my knowlege, whether or not any of the "offers" might take him away from Demopolis.
Sylacauga fans on the Al.com boards continue to believe Goodwin has not only been offered the job in his home town, but will in fact be coaching there next season. As of now, we wait and see...
My 2 cents: If it's worth anything.. If Coach Goodwin really feels his career and family will be better off elsewhere, then I say good luck to him and his family. My feeling, selfish as it may be, is he has an opportunity to get that Blue Map he wants as badly as this community does. Devin has one more year of High School, and could very well graduate a state champion and eventual legend here. Not to mention the DHS baseball team equally has a legitimate shot at a state title. If Coach Goodwin will stay through next year, I'll help him pack for wherever he decides to go; if he feels after being carried off Leigon Field holding a state trophy leaving is the best thing still.
Isn't Coach Goodwin and his wife from Sylacauga?

If Coach Goodwin were to leave, about what time would that normally happen for any other coach who is going to a new school? -After the school year? -Before spring practice?
I was just wondering about when an announcement would be expected if he were to leave.
Statpat,
Is there any way that you could possibly get a personal interview to get a read on it for yourself and the viewers here on Demopolis Live?
I hope that he will at least stay through this school year, and personally I don't see him leaving but, I guess you never know.
The biggest loss if Goodwin were to leave before the end of the school year is Devin not playing baseball for DHS. IF he is planning to leave, though, the sooner the school knows the better chance they'll have of finding a real coach and not just a stand-in until one becomes available.

How about one of the present assistant coaches at DHS? Is one of them prepared to move up with the least turbulance to the program? If they all are passed over will they feel "dissed" and want to move with Goodwin or somewhere else too? I don't know how attached to Demopolis they are.

I dont see how they can increase his salary by that much when they are letting teachers go because the don't have the funding for for them. To me instead of paying so much for the coaches they should look at keeping the teachers. Now I know that Sports is big in pretty much any town and I am a big fan of sports but we need to set priorties here and think about the education of these kids. Like Dave said if he feels he needs to leave then so be it.
