Demopolis Police Officers

Ok, the message said post anything, so here it goes. Is it just me or do some of the Demopolis police officers have HUGE attitude problems? Where do they get these men? Just because the guy wears a badge on his chest, does that give him the right to talk to me like I'm a farm animal? My own parents didn't even use that tone or attitude w/ me when I was growing up. Last time I checked, THE POLICE worked for us...the taxpayers! Isn't the motto "To serve & protect"?

I had an incident happen last week and two of the five (yes, you read it right) officers that responded were total JERKS, while the other three were cool & calm. I, in return, was mindful & respectful saying "yes sir" & "no sir" to each one of them. One officer flared his chest & got within 1 foot of my face. Now I didn't provoke this in any way. I've never been arrested, never been to jail...pushed my luck a few times of course:-), but never have had run-ins w/ the police. I simply asked his name & he asked me in return if I had a problem w/ that, he said & I quote, "If you do, then we'll take it up downtown!". He looked quite young, so he was probably going through puberity. I want so bad to mention names & describe the incident that took place, but as sure as I do, there will be retaliation from it that I certainly don't want or need & I'm ready for the town gossip to shift to somebody else for awhile.

I wonder if I could file a formal complaint w/ the DP department? Sure as I do, I'll be ticketed or arrested for something meaningless. I'm sorry to babble, but it just PISSED ME OFF AND NOW THAT I'VE WRTTEN THIS, I CAN COOL DOWN & GO TO BED. I will have to say a big thumbs down to the quality of certain individuals in the DPD!

There are bad apples in every bunch. I'm not familiar with all the police on the force. From what I know, Det. Tim is a good guy (who also frequents this site).

I know of one officer, whom I won't name, who fits the profile that you described. My belief is the guy is scared, and feels putting up a big front will somehow make himself intimidating. I feel that officers should be given their due respect, but unprovoked actions towards innocent individuals are not called for.

Every police force has a few officers who have let a little power go to their heads. Don't let it get the best of you and remember, not all of them are like that so you did the right thing.

easy rider, sorry to hear about your problem ... that you do indeed have every right to file a citizen complaint.. the best person to file it with is the public safety director , jeff manuel... his office is in the down town fire station... again i am sorry that you had a bad experience and if you would like to talk to me about it you can send me an instant messsage or call me at the police station.

hey sounds like nothing has changed around demopolis when it comes to the police force. Long overdue for some real cops there. Last time they had decent ones I was in JR High. When Bobby Meigs was asst chief. God how time flies.

Not all cops are mean and have a bad additude,they are all good cops.Have you even thought about how you came on to them when they pulled you over did you try to get smart with them or start off in an agressive voice? I dont know all the cops there are a few new ones on the force but i know most of them and they are all fine men doing their jobs. Their motto "to serve and protect" they live that motto to the fullest. Just remember the golden rule "treat others and you want to be treated" if you are nice to them, then chances are they will be nice to you. Have any of you ever thought what would it be like if you were in the cops shoes, I can tell you its alot harder than you think it is.
