Reported by the Democrat-Reporter, a mob attacked 2 individuals on Oct. 11th, about 4 A.M. Milison Price was stomped in the ground, and her face was slashed with broken beer bottles, requiring 100 stitches to close the wounds. Her brother, Kendrick Sewell, was attacked with a knife, cuting his arms open to the bone and requiring over 200 stitches to close him up.
Five were arrested--Cynthia Brown, Marvin Brown, Deimetetris Aldridge, Jonathan White, and Greg Aldridge--All charged with assault 1. It was reported over 10 people were involved in the attacks, and that more arrests were expected.
The D-R reported this as "project celebration after Linden High School's homecoming game." Sources told me there's more to this than that. The Brown and Price families repoortedly have hated each other for years. this reportedly isn't the first altercation between the families. A retaliation is likely, according to sources.
I think it's a bit unprofessional and borderline racist to call what happened a "Project Celebration", insinuating this is how blacks celebrate after a football game.

Considering the source of the "project celebration" comment, I wouldn't be surprised if it was intended to be racist. It's a shame to see what the paper (DR) gets away with printing. Maybe it's time for someone to put a stop to them!!

As much as I find the DR distasteful, it would be a shame to put a stop to it. Don't forget FREEDOM OF SPEECH. Everyone has opinions and has the right to voice them. I think too many people only believe in free speech when they agree with the speaker. When exactly would taking away this freedom stop? Only when everyone agreed with everyone else?

I agree about freedom of speech. Here's my problem with the article. It's not printed in the editorial section, it's on the front page. Newspapers are journals of record. They are supposed to be non-biased and factual in there printing. When a journalist invokes bias and opinion into an article posing as fact, it's wrong. Now, if he was quoting a witness' statement or someone elses opinion, that would be fine. He didn't do that.
If the D-R want's to be the "Enquirer" of West Alabama, that's fine. I'll still read it because I'm a news junky. He just needs to be known as such, and readers should be warned ahead of time to take everything with a grain of salt.

Dave, supposed to be non-biased and factual, yes. The reality....the journalists in this country (and I mean the whole COUNTRY) that actually are non-biased is slim to none. Maybe I am just too cynical. Is the DR government funded? Don't think so. It is funded by the people who buy the paper and the advertisers who buy space. I just don't find anything wrong with the comment being on the front page. Was there a celebration? Was it in the housing project? If so, then it would be factual. I am tired of everything being so PC.
What Goodloe said is redneck ingorance. The implication that blacks celebrate sporting events by mobbing up and attempting to kill people goes way beyond the borders of "PC"--Which I too think isn't needed in journalism. IF a bunch of white kids in Linden group together at the Country Club and happen to get into a fight with a black or two, would Goodloe calling it a Klan Rally be OK?
