Recently my six year old was referred to a dentist in Tuscaloosa. We made the intial appointment and I noticed that he wasn't very friendly, kind of dry, but I let it go. The next visit was awful. I have never experienced anything like it. He was to pull three teeth but do to some problems with another child he got behind. He came out and they gave the laughing gas then he administered four shots without numming the area first. Then he just started pulling teeth. He did not try to explain or even talk to my child. Who later ended up getting upset. There wasn't any pain just plenty of fear. He started talking ugly and seemed to be agitated. I had to intervene, because he had pissed me off, and asked that he step back so I could try to get things under control. I later got upset and used some profanity and was told that due to my behavior third appointment would not be made. This was later changed. I apologized for my behavior but explained that under the circumstances any parent in my situation would have been upset.
My child later asked why was that man talking to them like that. I tried explaining but my child stated that they did not want to go back. So I made a follow up appointment with our regular dentist. I was trying to find a site with information of how to go about complaining but I haven't had much luck. What do you think?

This is absolutely inexcusable. There is a way to report abusive physicians. I have heard co-workers discuss it. I will try to find out how and let you know. I am sorry that ya'll had to go through this. I hope that your child will be able to get past this traumatic incident.

Thanks, but no thanks! This was the practice in which we were referred to.

I tried to explain that what was not their fault. My husband & best friend experience a similar situation as children and they are not fond of the dentist at all. I on the other have never been exposed to that sort of treatment by any medical professional. So it caught me completely off guard.

He did not offer an apology or anything. He just got up and went to his next patient. His behavior was the most unprofessional I have ever encountered. I was talking to a parent about it and another mother overheard & stated that she had a visit in which she was not satisfied with his service either. I will never recommend him to anyone and I suggested to my dentist that they may want to do the same. I know I have no plans of returning.

i can understand why you became upset. going to the dentist can be very traumatic for a child. i'm sorry you and your child had a bad experience. we never had any dealings with burgess and now i am glad. dr. simpson was great with our son. he even took a picture with him saying "my first visit to the dentist". our son was never afraid of going back.

Got that same picture. Now that I think about it, the only time he smiled was for that picture. When it was over, so was his smile. Dr. Simpson is at their second office in Northport. I can only imagine how business will change if this is how Dr. Burgess is with all of his patient's.
