This is a spin off of the McD's thread. Some of you may have already posted your ideas......but if there was a place to have birthday parties or just a safe place for kids to hang out, what kinds of activities would you llike to see?
God is touched by your tears but He is not moved by them. He is moved by your praise. Stay full of praise and watch Him show favor over your life.
For the older kids, (boys, ages 8-12 or whatever) my sister-in-law had a really good suggestion...laser tag and paintball, activities geared towards older boys. I have a 11 year old and there is really no place in Demopolis to hold a birthday party, besides churches and the park. I also have a 18 month old.I would like someplace nice to hold his as well, with activities geared towards his age. I hope someone opens up a place like that in Demopolis.
If someone is really motivated to create a place for kids to hang out, I think that your first step should be....talk to some kids!
I've started realizing of late that many of the things I loved doing when I was a kid are considered soooooo last decade by today's kids. I'm pretty sure that those of you who have a few kids and a few years on me have noticed an even bigger difference between what you considered a fun time, and what your kids considered a fun time.
Perhaps it would be a good move to talk to some of the youth groups in town, kids at the high school and the junior high, and other random kids that you find to see just what they consider to be "fun time" and build off of that (with obvious limitations). While we are talking about skating rinks, kids in Demopolis may be more interested in a place where they can play computer games!

I think it is a great idea. One other thing I was going to mention is that in Tuscaloosa there is a place I think called "Eye Candy". Over by La Fiesta and Toyko's. They have dress-up parties for kids. They do make-up and have feather boas and crowns and things. Really cute and neat place.
Turtleback Some people are like a Slinky ..... Not really good for anything, but you still can't help but smile when you shove them down the stairs.
What ever happened to your own back yard. Guess kids don't know about the washer or horseshoe game, or badmitton, or volly ball. Think most are too lazy to exert enough energy for that stuff. Guess the generation gap gate slamed shut on me. It's hard to even get my grand girls interested in that. Watching TV and fighting with each other is what they like. They will play ball tho.
May those who love us, love us. And those that don't love us may God turn their hearts; And if he doesn't turn their hearts, may he turn their ankles so we will know them by their limping.
Sweet Pea, I agree with your basic sentiment (the obesity plaguing many children in America has a lot to do with less outside activities), but you have to remember that, now, more kids have to spend time in after-school or summer activities because parents are working more. Plus, something like this would be great for a rainy day or special occasion, and perhaps for younger kids a "party place" could include some activities that introduce them to the great outdoors.

Re: Party Place
Computer games are definitely hot now. However, I know that kids love making things, as well. Boys too! To really create word of mouth success and repeat business and longevity, a variety of choices would have to be made available. You would have to have old-fashioned fun games mixed with a novel concept, such as, jumpy things or laser tag. The entire "party" could/would be packaged--right down to decorations, plates, cups and napkins! It would require lots of after hours----who has a party between 9-5? But, would be worth it after a year or so.
