Does all of Demopolis not agree that we need some nice restaurant's and some more retail store's in Beautiful Downtown Demopolis. Downtown is dying because of the highway and there are plenty of great stores downtown. The variety is wide, you can buy anything from office supplies or go to your hometown bank or buy a mattress. I really think we should renovate Strawberry St.
(old Traeger's Bakery side) what a beautiful and historic bunch of buildings that are just going to waste, I know it would cost alot of money, but in the long run it would be so worth it. Look at Tuscaloosa they have turned all of those old buildings into something to during the day or some where to eat at night (not saying that Demopolis does not have anywhere to eat because they do, I think the Red Barn is one of the best places around but other than that we are running slim pickins', and until Mr. G's opens back up all we really have is the Red Barn and a butt load of fast food.Oh yeah there is a place out on 80 W, but I just can't afford it, whatch your self!!! Sorry to waste all of this space but I felt I needed to....

thank you,

Several have tried opening businesses in downtown. Just not enough support. It's sad!

the reason for no support is because everyone is moving to the highway and is fixated with one one or two restarunt's in town and we need to grow out of this old folks way of living. Downtown Demopolis could be a great landmark for the city and we need to exploit it. It is Historical and it is something we as Demopolis people should hold onto and treasure. Also we do not use the river the way we should, we should upgrade all of the waterfront and make it a place where a family can go and rest on a nice afternoon, not a place where a person can pull up under a tree in his or her vehicle and have lunch. Sorry for all of the dumb ideas, I feel like I am running for Mayor......

The election is next year!! Of course, I think you have to live in the city limits...

I agree with downtown. I think the key is getting more estabolishments that are open at night. A diner would go nicely downtown--something that's open 24-7.

The mainstays do have their "regulars". In a small town, you have to have regulars to stay in business. If you look at Linden, nothing has been able to survive past DQ and the Depot because folks would rather spend their money where it's familiar. The tragic downfall to most restaurants, especially the ones that aren't "chains", is the need to overcharge for food to clear overhead after starting up the place--then the need to increase prices further just to stay out of the red due to slow turnouts.

That is another point in the same arguement I had on my post. There is alot of Demopolis that is being wasted. We could draw major crowds year-round with just a little effort.
