Chief Avery is retiring next week. Looks like the fix is in for him to have one of his buddies as his replacement before Mayor Caldwell calls it quits. A good background check should be completed this time to ensure the next police chief of Demopolis does not bring any excess baggage with him or her. The Demopolis police force, in my opinion, has been in turmoil for the past few years. The wrong people, again in my opinion, have been wrongly investigated and released. There are a few good officers on the Demopolis police force. All they need is great leadership, effective training, and have the rules apply evenly accross the board instead of when the city leaders want to prosecute someone. To dismiss an officer for doing his job was not right.
I split this to a new thread since it's a good topic.

Among his reasons are the constant bad press reports and some possible health issues. From my source, Avery cited the recent column in the Democrat-Reporter where Sutton accused Avery of hiding an arrest report because it was a city employee as the proverbial straw. It was soon discovered the report wasn’t even at the DPD, but at the Marengo Co. Sheriff’s office. He expressed general disgust for always having to defend himself.
I was a couple of months off
Nobody is sure who will be nominated for the position. The consensus is they should let Jeff Manuel have the position instead of just an interim, or maybe Det. Tim if he wants it.
OMG...Demopolis is getting a new police chief.....can it be true???
I am aware that my appearance, by mortal standards, is strange, even unsettling.
If I am to be an ambassador of my people, tradition dictates that I look the part.
Sadly, those who judge me on my looks alone ignore the causes I champion
Still, when the need arises, I am a warrior.
I hope it isn't Det. Tim - he is cocky enough in the position he is in now - if he is chief no one will be able to stand to be in the same room with him.
All you need is an ounce of hope…a measure of faith…a touch of glory…and a taste of grace
yeah Demopolis needs a chief like the current marine police (Oliver) then the city will not to have to worry about tourists, boaters, vacationers, fishermen, swimmers, campers, etc ,....they will actually be ran out of town...to spend there money elsewhere...$$$ the city doesn't really need
yes ... the chief is really going to retire..... the paper has the right information in it... they will have jeff manuel as acting chief as the process to get a new chief is followed.... this should take a little while...
thanks to the people who said good things about me.... i do appreciate it greatly.... and to the ones who did not... i will say that i don't always rub people the right way but the position i am in is mostly to blame for that.... i have to be assertive and very agressive sometimes to investigate some of the cases i work on... this is intended to be directed at the subjects of the investigation... but some people see this and think that i am really like this all the time.... but the people that really have gotton to know me can attest that this is not true.... so if i have offended you personally in some way i do opoligize .... and if you don't mind feel free to message me and let me know how i can help change you opinion of me.......
Man, I'll be glad when I've been here longer and know the people and town better....then I could weigh in on some of the topics here.
But I still find Demopolis Live a way to learn about the area, at least. The police department, the hospital (which seems to be more of a first aid station, from the sounds of it), COTR (which I'm really looking forward to), the whole Rescue Rabbit thing keeps me laughing, etc...I am a learnin'. *smile*
I don't know you personally, Sarge, but wish you the best of luck if the job of Chief is one that you desire.
