I'm a Bama Fan and I don't think he should have been given the boot. Freedom of Speech... what's that?? He would have learned his lesson another way - he probably would have had the crap beat out of him!!
Idiotic. Plain and simple. People take stuff WAAAAAAAAAAAAAY too seriously. There's being a fan, and then there is being fanatic. I think this qualifies as the latter.
"The House of the Venerable and Inscrutable Colonel was what they called it when they were speaking Chinese. Venerable because of his goatee, white as the dogwood blossom, a badge of unimpeachable credibility in Confucian eyes. Inscrutable because he has gone to his grave without divulging the Secret of the Eleven Herbs and Spices."
Freedom of speech is the right of every American. And here is the but, others don't have to accept what you say.
In Alabama, football is much more than a game. during football season events are scheduled so not to conflict with the games. Alabama and Auburn fans, verbally and sometimes physically, battle every day of the year.
I can accept him wanting to be a "professional cheerleader" and moving to a school that enters cheerleaders competition. He should have kept his mouth, shut especially on camera. It is kinda like Clinton's "Don't ask and don't tell" policy about gays in the military, no one would have know if he had just kept his mouth shut.
It IS acceptable for Alabama fans to support Auburn and force out an occassionaly "War Eagle". But those are in support of another state team and wish them well.

I agree with the Sarge on this issue. I don't think Bailey should have been booted. That's kinda like the guy who works for Coca-Cola, but drinks Pepsi. People are entitled to support who they want. As long as Bailey was doing his job and effective in his capacity as a Cheerleader, he shouldn't have been booted. I think we may see this guy come back with a discrimination suit against Alabama for his dismissal. Just what Alabama needs......another lawsuit!

I'm an Alabama fan, but I also like Auburn. The issue to me is that the young man was not doing his job. It is part of his job as an Alabama cheerleader to support the team. He was definitely not doing that when he yelled "War Eagle." If an Auburn cheerleader had yelled "Roll Tide," I would have felt the same way. It was an unfortunate lapse of judgement, but Chris Bailey can't lead cheers for Alabama while having been so obvious in stabbing the team in the back. Mal Moore made the right decision. Bailey should be gone.
The whole issue is ridiculous. First of all, it was for fun and games. The reporter was having fun with him and asked him for a Roll Tide and then asked him if he would say War Eagle. If you watch the tape, he did not put any enthusiam into it. As far as supporting his University, if he did not support it then he would not have been with Alabama. He was a former Auburn cheerleader who decided to go to Alabama. If the higher ups at Alabama would not have made a big deal about it, then nothing would have been said. I think that the whole thing is ridiculous. If anyone was to blame it was the reporter who was suggesting the idea and having fun with it. Like the constitution says there is a freedom of speech. If he wanted to press the issue, he could take it to court for a violation of his constitutional rights.
I personally can't believe bama would do that to the guy. As an Auburn fan, I personally would never cheer for bama but if the guy wants to say one little cheer for the other team why should he be punished. Thats like a waiter at one restaurant complimenting another one; are you gonna fire them for that? It's ridiculous!!
There are none so blind as those who will not see.
Remember what happened during this past NASCAR season. I can't remember the team, but one team used a Dodge for one race and Ford or Chevy, forgot which, dropped all manufactor support of the team.
Loyalty to your employer, sponsor or even school must be maintained.
So what's the difference between a male cheerleader that does a simple non-enthusiastic cheer for another team and a star football player that was arrested for Marijuana? There should not be a difference. I believe it was overlooked because Bama knew that they would not be able to hang in with Auburn without him. Several years back, maybe seven, another Bama star running back was arrested for DUI and was suspended for several games, and of course they had a good season. I would think that the Marijuana possession would be just as serious as a DUI. Where are their priorities at?
