This town isn't going to grow until some of the "old money" dies and lets the younger crowd take over. Too many people stuck in their ways and they don't want change. It's really a shame for the children because they will not grow up to amount to much unless they get out. Call it the Demopolis "bubble". Glad I got out when I did and I won't move back unless some BIG changes are made and this town starts moving up instead of back in time.

Call it the Demopolis "bubble".

You've touched on something that I've thought about for awhile now.

My term for it was the Demopolis "Gated Community". It's all about where you're putting the money. What I'm seeing though is a sutuation that might require that type of thinking, at least for awhile. If you look around Marengo, Greene, and Perry counties, Demopolis has managed to stay above the rest, especially in the Public Educational system. If Demopolis was to follow the trend in the rest of the Black Belt, what you would see is community support shifting from the public school to the private school, and you would end up with segregation all over again. The reason Demopolis has done so well is the most influential (wealthy) persons in town have decided to support DHS, bucking the trend of the rest of the area.

Demopolis will grow. Maybe not at the rate of a Prattville, Thomasville, Millbrook, etc. (due to location), but it will steadily grow. I think in this "Bubble", we'll be better off for it. I'd rather be this size Demopolis than be a bigger Selma.
