I attended the annual Christmas party on December 13th at the VA Hospital in Tuscaloosa. Talked with the Director of volunteers and patient activities. He stated he has had an extremely great response for support of our veterans at his facility and is in good shape for funds and supplies through the holiday season. I told him we will hold off on our fund-raising activity until January and raise funds to support his patients for Valentines Day. The VA Hospital in Tuscaloosa consists of general care patients, those with mental health problems and a long term (nursing home) care facility.
The Department of Alabama Veterans of Foreign Wars sponsored the Christmas party. Our State Surgeon, Ken Lucas, put together a great party and we gave each patient a personal care bag with items supplied by VFW Posts in our area. Refreshments were served by the Ladies Auxiliaries.
A big thanks goes to New Era Cap Company here in Demopolis for donating about 275 baseball caps. You should have seen the smiles on their faces when they found a cap with their favorite team logo. I'm sure to notice the caps on their heads during my future visits and I will have a smile on my face, one of satisfaction.
