Demopolis Times Gets Some Hate Mail

It has to be tough running a newspaper in Demopolis. How do you improve something here without upsetting the applecart?

A “couple of people in Demopolis” have expressed hate toward the Times. Not because the said the wrong thing, or embarrassed someone unnecessarily, or missed an important story… They “hate” the Times simply because they went to 5 days a week. Why would 5 papers VS 2 papers a week be such a big deal? Because it’s different.

When the Times went to 5 days, they also expanded their territory to cover 5 counties. The “haters” say they don’t care what’s happening outside the city limits of Demopolis. They also say the Times now has less news about Demopolis. If the “haters” think McElvy is dropping good local stories to cover bad regional ones, they are sorely mistaken. Does anyone really think a story about someone building a house in Demopolis is more important than someone getting killed in Livingston?

As McElvy proved in his editorial, the paper is giving, on average, twice as much Demopolis news per week VS before, with twice as many pages as well. Subscription rates stayed the same, while newsstand prices dropped to 50 cents a paper. They’ve even made better attempts at keep in their website updated (may even get better now that Patrick is the new webmaster). If you’re going to complain, at least make it legit.
