Starting in 2007 the U.S. Army will we phasing out the "Class A Dress Green Uniform" that has been in use since the late 1950's. The switch over to the new Army Dress Blues will be completed by 2011. In 2007 the new uniform will start appearing in Army Clothing Sales Stores as an optional item and in 2008 start being issued to new recruits. The new enlisted Dress Blues will be similar to the present ones. Some of the changes are trousers with belts instead of the present suspenders and tan shirts for daytime wear. The white shirt and black bow tie will remain for formal wear. Soldiers with ranks of Specialist (E4) and below will not have the gold stripe on the trouser legs and the present black beret will be worn. When soldiers achieve Non Commissioned Officer rank of Corporal (E4) or above the gold stripe on the trousers will be added and the present Dress Blues saucer cap will be worn. The only differences in the Present office uniforn will be the addition of the tan shirt and belted trousers. Female troops will have skirts and slacks with the same changes in their as with the male uniform. Skirts or slacks will be worn as prescribed by the commander as the uniforn of the day.

GOODBY FUNKY GREENS!!! But will we be confused too much with the Air Force?

The current uniform regulations states that military retirees are authorized to wear uniforms on special occassions. The retiree may wear the uniform that was being worn when he/she retired OR the current authorized uniform. Retirees should research if this stays true when the new uniform is phased in.
