Okay. I have the camera phone and taken some pictures but can't for the life of me figure out how to put them on my computer much less print them. I've got a Motorola i850 and have the USB cable. Can any of you computer goo-roos tell me how to do it?

have you tried hooking it up and then going to my computer and see if there's any new devices? you might just be able to copy them right onto the computer.

Yeah, I had tried that earlier. I thought it would recognize it like another drive. I've got a whatchamacallit that I put my memory stick from my digital camera in and it reads it, so I don't use my camera batteries. It was like I hadn't done anything. I got on the motorola website and saw something call "Phone Tools" and it talked about installng the cd, is that a program (driver) that you have to purchase somewhere or is it available online. I'm not really up on this electronic technology. I should have replied to BB2132 and asked "what does Google it mean"? Serious. Is that like a Yahoo search?

I went to that link and downloaded it. I tried using two of the programs that I use like when I connect my digital camera ( or use the separate memory stick drive). It'll say Drive G. It makes a little noise each time I connected or disconnected the usb cable to the front of the computer and to the camera; however, it says "connection failed..make sure the camera is properly connected and turned ont...hit retry or connection to change the port". Not that I knew what I was doing anyway but I hit the connection button and changed each of the setting one at a time and tried it that way and I still get the "connection failed" message. Do I maybe have the driver downloaded but something is wrong with my cable or the USB port or ???. At least it's getting recognized now (sort of). I'll try again tomorrow.

I'm sure nothing's wronge with the cable or usb port. Did you try to go to my computer after you plugged it in after downloading the driver and try to open it from there. I dont think the camera programs are going to work with it, but I could be wronge.

scootergal if this all doesnt work I bought Motorola Phone Tools and use it to download My pictures and everything. I dont see why they get you all excited about ohhhhhh this phone takes pictures and then the butttttt comes in you can only get them off if you pay 59.95 for this other software which of course I did but it does lots more than that as well you can save you phone numbers ot your pc as well and then when you get a new phone you can copy them back to your phone also helps with the music you upload or download to your phone so its not to bad when you think of what all it odes but it is prolly a bit cheaper now I would think

You gonna have to break down and buy the Motorola Phone Tools software to be able to pull your pics out of your camera. It don't work like a digital camera, external hard drive, or memory stick. This is a horse of an entirely different color.
You can purchase the software directly from Motorola's website.

We have a camera phone and all I did was email them from the phone to my email. It is a new phone, but can't most camera phones do this?

OK here goes. First I believe the Motorola Phone Tools will not work with an iden phone. I have a Moto RAZR (Cingular) and a Moto i760 (Southern Linc) I use Motorola Phone Tools for my RAZR and a program called MyJAL for my iden. I bought both of these off ebay for $15 each. They were on a CD that had lots of ringtones and wallpapers. Now my iden is not a camera phone so I have never done any picture transfers with it, but I have done ringtones and wallpapers with ease. You can go to www.motomodders.net for more info. Hope this helps.

I'm thinking now "why exactly did I buy this stupid camera phone?". I don't think I can email from my phone or I can't find it anywhere. I'm going to check out the Motorola Phone Tools since it is a Motorola i850, that should work, right? Wish me luck!!

I went to the motorola site and for $29.99 can download the Phone Tools since I already have the usb cable; however, an i850 is not on the list of phone types. I emailed Motorola. Southern Linc is not even listed as a cellular carrier. Am I missing something? I just asked if Phone Tools was what I needed and why my phone was not listed as I was going to go ahead and purchase it. I'll see how long it takes me to get a reply.

Hold off on purchasing the Phone Tools software. I forgot you use a SouthernLinc. It will probably take an entirely different software to access the pics from that phone. I have looked at a new linc phone, but really haven't done my homework on them since I am most likely about to discontinue my service with SouthernLinc in favor of Cingular. Will get back to you on this.

Motorola sells a USB cable, but you have to download the software to do it this way.
I find that the easiest way to do this is to set up the email system on your telephone and send an email to yourself with the picture attached.
i have the Motorola Razor and this method works fine.
Good luck

Here's the link to the software you need. It's a FREE download directly from Motorola!
http://idenphones.motorola.com/iden/support/software/html/media_download.html
DO NOT buy the Phone Tools software. It will NOT work with the i850!

Okay, I think I'm getting closer but man do I feel stupid about this stuff. Mustang65, I was embarrassed to ask what an iden phone was...now I know...sort of. And thanks Stickman for the website. I have downloaded it and thought that I did all the steps; however, I still get a message that "cannot install the modem". Let me get this straight...there are not multiple usb cables that connect to this phone, are there? I have one that we got Motorola sent us for ??? (can't remember) and it plugs to the front (or back) usb port. I did see in the FAQ'a something about having to use a USB port NOT a USB hub? What's the difference.
And Bilmo, how do you set up an email system on the phone. I only have one-way text messaging. Is that something extra that you have to subscribe to or do you just have to ask your computer literate friends?

I have a razor telephone and in the user manaul it explained how to set up the email system on the telephone. It was easy to do. After i set up the email I saved the email in my phone book and now when i want to send the pictures it takes no time at all. I am not sure what is in your usuer manaul with the type of telephone that you have. But go to the motorola website and they usually explain how to set up the email.

An iDen phone is the radio / phones used by Nextel and SouthernLinc. They have the phone / radio capability. Although the features are somewhat similar, it is a totally different breed of phone from the cell phones used by regular cell phone carriers like Cingular, UniHell, Verizon Wireless, etc...
Where did you get your data cable for the phone? Is it a Motorola cable or an off-brand? Here's the cable you SHOULD be using...
http://www.idenstore.com/dr/v2/ec_Main.Entry17C?SID=34196&SP=10023&CID=0&PID=748846&PN=1&V1=748846&V2=&V3=&V4=&V5=31046699
Some of these SouthernLinc outlets stock the Falcon brand accessories for SL phones. They don't always work as well as genuine Motorola products. This I know from personal experience.
The difference between a USB port and a USB hub is the USB ports are the ones built into your computer. A USB hub is a piece of equipemnt you buy to add more USB ports to your computer, similar to one of those 5 or 6 way plugs you would plug into a 2 socket wall outlet @ home to have more space to plug electrical stuff into. If you are using a hub to plug the phone into, sometimes things don't work using a hub. You have to plug them directly into the USB's on the computer.
Hope this helps.

The cable was one that Southern Linc sent us a little bit back to upgrade something-or-other. It has the right number on the cable that says should be used. I'm going to keep at it. I'm getting close.
