This subject has been hashed here for quite some time. However, I still feel that Downtown Demopolis is not getting its due respect. After all of the discussion on the area, there are still people who think there is nothing there other than the post office and a couple of stores.

Is there anything worth even going to downtown now besides the post office? and of course angelwing's gallery.... and the sandwich shop... i suppose two attempts to bring something to downtown area. the library also... but our library is SO small with such little selection other than fiction. the movie theatre also, but the owner or manager is angry at everyone all the time from my experiences there.
Just for the record, I would like to let everyone know that the following businesses are alive and well in Downtown Demopolis (unless something has happened to them recently that I don't know about):
The Grand Gallery, Angelwing Gallery, Fleming Framing and Gifts, Demopolis Christian Bookstore, French Quarter Market, 2nd Time Around, Trade & Traffic, The Mustard Seed, Spiller Furniture, Very Unique Fashions, Pamper Me Perfect, Designer Showcase, Culpepper Electric, a business across from Fleming's that I can't remember, The Sandwich Shop, Napoleon's restaurant, a new restaurant on Strawberry Street, two hair places on Strawberry that I can't remember the name of, Reggie's, Demopolis Shoe Shop, Demopolis Public Library, Marengo Theatre, Danny's, Demopolis Area Chamber of Commerce, T&T Tax Service, Marengo Insurance, The Blackbelt Gazzette, five attorney's offices, Robertson Bank, BankTrust and forgive me if I've left out others.
That comes to a total of 35 businesses just in the heart of downtown. As you can see, there is nothing worth coming downtown for. And I'm sure that the library would be more than willing to accept donations so that they can expand their selection of books.
All sunsets are not created equal.

Great point ! Don't forget the Movie Theater, Jewels and I go at least twice a month and trust me, it isn't that bad !
Downtown Demopolis has been dying since I was kid (in the stone ages according to my children). It's a typical downtown area of a typical small town. Too many people want NEW as opposed to historical. Go figure. (I see a correlation between marriages and downtowns here. Anyone else see it? lol)
What brought downtown Mobile back was places people could hang out, coffee houses, brew pub, jazz club, etc. Maybe a smaller club/bar where live local music on the weekends?
They've given me a number, and taken away my name!

If downtown Demopolis is dying, then why can't I ever find a parking place when I go there. It doesn't seem to matter which end of downtown I'm in...it's always crowded. I'm not complaining mind you. I think it's a wonderful thing and a good sign that downtown is alive and well. Our downtown is beautiful and offers a wonderful selection of great stores. When visitors come to my office or my home that's one of the first places I want to take them and show it off.

There are some very good businesses downtown. However, I wonder how many would move to Hwy 80 if they had the opportunity to move at same the price per square foot.

Frankly, I wouldn't move either our studio or frame shop to Hwy 80 if the price was 1/2. If I had a motel, yes, otherwise too much traffic & congestion already.
