County Veterans Service Officer

I would like to bring to everyone's attention that advertising has began to fill the position of the Marengo County State Veterans Service Officer. The ad was in The Demopolis Times yesterday and should be in other publications as well. Here is the eligibility requirements for those out-of -towners who may be interested and unable to get the info:

1. Resident and qualified voter in Marengo County. (My note:That leaves some out)
2. Honorable discharged with minimum of 60 days active military service in a wartime period. (My note: Applicant need not have served in a war/combat zone but must have served at least 60 days during the declared time frame.)
3. Two years college with courses in social work or counseling; or ten years in office management experience.
4. Proficient in MS Windows 2000 and Office XP Suite.

Salary $26,714.40 annually.

Applications are available on Monday and Tuesday ONLY, at the VA office in Linden located in a trailer on the site of the old jail.

The DEADLINE that applications must be submitted is no later than July 26, 2006.

My comments: This position MAY also require the person selected to travel to other counties to service those locations. Visits to the homes of bed bound veterans MAY also be necessary. The person selected MAY also be required to attend initial as well as ongoing training. Applicants will be scheduled for an interviews. Two people from the State Veterans Affairs Office conducted the interviews when the position was last filled. PM me if more info is needed.
