New Orleans

Anyone been to New Orleans lately? J & I had AmTrak tickets to go the week before Katrina hit. Just wondering if the city was back together enough to plan a trip in early September.....

Re: New Orleans

The Quarter and CBD area are up and running, a lot of the restaurants are back. The aquarium should be open soon. The rest of the city looks like a moonscape.

Re: New Orleans

I went back during Mardis Gras... and it still was BAD. Lots and lots of damage, don't even try to use google maps or yahoo directions because over half of the street signs are not even posted anymore, red lights are really confusing, etc. You should definately know where you're going / how to get there. The french quarter was really damaged, but you could still get around it and we all had a good time. Outside the french quarter though, we had a really hard time finding gas station / fast food or restaurant... etc.

Re: New Orleans

Was there "working" yesterday, it looks a lot better since Mardi Gras, even had lunch at Mulattes! I agree stay around downtown and the Quarter, and now where you are headed! (Wish we had frozen daiquiri bars here in Alabama!)

Re: New Orleans

I was there Memorial DAy weekend. I had a great time!! The trolley car was not running up St Charles while I was there, but canal and riverfront routes were up and running. Also they are FREE!! WE rode the entire Canal route around the carrolton area. You still can see a lot of devastation. It was something to see. I could see the water line about 5 feet up on some houses. The french quarter was back in the swing of things. The aquarium is open. I suggest taking a cab to get around while down there rather than trying to drive and find your way around. Of course Bourbon street was same ole same ole. We had lots of fun!! WE also went to Harrah's casino. That was fun also! WE ate at a great restaurant The Crescent City Brewry. It was DElicious! I suggest going to NOLA.com and find out what things are open. They usually update when restaurants or attractions are reopening.

Ummmmm Did you not see these same people or some of them that were shooting at the Ones risking their lives ot rescue them!!! I always wanted to go to New Orleans and did once for a couple days but to be honest what I saw on tv after katrinia was enough to wonder this even exists!!
I know to each His Own!!
But its sad to say I have no sympathy or empathy for these people and just pray for the safety of those who go there!!!
Yes I know there are good people there and would of been tickled if it could of been cleaned up but there is no way that could be done anytime soon!!!!!!!
