Washington (AP) - The House on Tuesday rejected a constitutional amendment to ban gay marriage, ending for another year a congressional debate that supporters of the ban hope will still reverberate in this fall's election. The 236-187 vote for the proposal to define marriage as a union between a man and a woman was 47 short of the two-thirds majority needed to advance a constitutional amendment. It followed six weeks after the Senate also decisively defeated the amendment, a top priority of social conservatives.

So we are really doing this discussion again? I don't think anyone has changed their opinion since last time...

I'm not opposed to gay marriage. I feel that two people in love, no matter the sex, should be allowed to be happy and be married like any other couple in the USA. I have always stated this, and I will not change it now. My opinions are in the other thread.

yeah ... I was talking to trezhamayn ... when he asked everyone's opinions on it... that's why I directed him to those OTHER 11 pages...

thanks for the update. they were pretty sure that it wasn't going to pass... then it didn't pass in the Senate and now it didnt' pass in the House... so even though Shelby sent me a letter in reply saying that he was voting for it, he wasn't on the winning side on this issue.

I think we did it the right way -- the people in Alabama voted for it and decided what we wanted for OUR state... and I think other people in other states should be given that same right.

and my opinion hasn't changed... I don't think they should make it illegal for any human couple to get married based on sex or race or whatever. Just doesn't seem fair.
