This is to all who have been arguing on the shoutout box about the price of flowers for Valentines. I work in a florist so it makes us up set to think that we are shim-shaming you. First of all florist are not the ones to blame for the prices that we have to charge. The wholesalers are the ones to blame. When our cost doubles for a stem of roses we have no other choice than to raise our price. The grocery stores don't have to go up because they don't have designers and employees that put in over 60 hours the week of valentines day trying to please their customers. Also, their flowers are not arranged in a vase,do not have much greenary or very much filler nor do they deliver. We have to consider how much extra gas and extra help we hire for that week which adds to the price. Florist don't make it on Valentines Day and funerals if so many would not make it since many months we only have one funeral. So the next time you are standing in line at Food-World consider trying a florist. You want have to stand in lines ten minutes to buy half dead flowers, and we would be glad to deliver them for you!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't blame the florists for the prices, I know they put in the extra hours, and it's more expensive because of the rush, but I don't see and need in paying as much as they charge for the roses when the roses are just going to die in a short time. Of course they can be dried, blah blah blah, but I can see many more ways to say I Love You on Valentine's Day and spend that money on than to waste my money on flowers. Of course there are millions of other out there that still pay the high prices but that's what they want to do, so be it. The florists do a wonderful job and the roses/flowers are beautiful, but I'd rather give them at a different time of year if I give them so I don't pay double/triple for them! Call me a cheapskate, but my wife insists I don't get her roses! Lucky me!?

There are a lot of things woman will pay money for I wouldn't. My wife has a ton of purses--I've had the same wallet now for about 7 years. My wife will pay money for decorative things I can't grasp the point of, yet she gets mad if I by something for my computer. It's a matter of perception, interests, and tastes I suppose.

The whole point of a holiday like Valentines is to show your significant other she's more important to you than your money or time. Could money spent on flowers be spent better on yard equipment? SURE!! Would it make your girl happier? That's the decision you make.

Thanks for the clarifcation on flower prices Sparkles. Even still, you can't single out florists on Valentines day for price gouging. It's all about supply and demand. How much is a drink in a Theatre where you're not allowed to bring your own? Ever bought a hot chocolate at COTR during the night parade? ($2.50 a cup) Check hotel prices during a slow time vs a big event in the area. Etc., etc...

I know it is a personal opinion if you want ot buy your sweetheat flowers or not for Valentines Day. Many women would rather have candy, go out to eat or a new piece of jewerly. I just hope people understand and appreciate all the work and STRESS that goes into having a successful Valentines for Florist. Most of all we as a florist don't want people thinking we are ripping them off!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks to all of you that do support the florist industry we appreciate it very much.

I absolutely forbid my husband to buy me flowers on VD, or at most other times of the year. It's just a waste of money!! A couple of times, he has stopped and picked some wildflowers for me, which cost nothing and were a more beautiful and thoughtful show of his affections.

He did well this year, by the way....spa packages say I LOVE YOU!!!

The surprising thing is that I AGREE with Wayleehan on this whole flower thing.I will not waste my money on something that's going to die in three days. For this V-day I bought my girlfriend a set of pajamas and a necklace and she told me she would rather have something like this than candy and flowers anyday.

I guess different people has different tastes.I bought my wife flowers last year and they lasted about a week or two,we just put it in a different vase and put clean water in them every couple of days.I know how much work goes into getting them arranged and i think they are worth the money, to see a smile on my wifes face!!!!!!!!!!!
