Something strange just happened to me and my computer. I have been in itunes most of the afternoon looking for music and playing music off of my computer. I do not have any file sharing software on my computer and I no long download illegal music. I closed out itunes and plugged my ipod up and restarted itunes, so that I could transfer some music. A new file showed up in my itunes program. It was a shared music file named Mallory's Limewire and had several songs in it. I unplugged my ipod and the file wasn't on it. The shared music file was in my itunes music source. A search of files on my computer did not find limewire or any shared music. Could this problem be someone hijacking our internet???? We aren't on a secured wireless network. How can I find Mallory and her limewire crap? I don't want the record company gestapo coming after me!!!!
I hate seeming like an idiot, I usually can figure out and fix most things on my computer, but this is baffling!
And for those who might ask, I updated my adware/virus software earlier today and ran a scan when "mallory" showed up...
I use iTunes a lot & have not experienced this problem. With computer savoy people out there in cyberspace, I guess it is possible to hijack a ride into your iTunes library. Just keep your spyware/anti-virus program updated at all times & check to see if your Windows firewall is active & running. Don't worry too much about it unless it continues & then seek some help from one of the many D'Live PC guru's. I don't think the record company police will come looking for you.
However, please keep us updated if you find out what caused the problem. I will definitely be on the look-out for it next time I connect my iPod.
If you're not living on the edge...you're taking up too much space!

from what i understand, itunes can be shared over a local network. so, it probably means that mallory (??) is on your wireless network. itunes can stream songs from another library over the network, but the music library will not save to your local hard drive - to prevent you from copying the music illegally. SO, you will not get in trouble for having her music b/c essentially...you don't!

here is a link: http://www.apple.com/itunes/share/
it should explain it a little better.
hope that helps
Thanks alot! I believe you helped me in the past with another ipod question! I guess also what we need to do is secure our wireless network. Again, thanks alot!

You SHOULD have done that from the git-go! Do you want to risk the chance of a "neighbor" using your wireless internet to download kiddie porn? If that ever happens, the kiddie porn police are going to come bust YOUR door down, not the "neighbor" borrowing YOUR internet connection!
Not saying you have any "neighbors" surfing kiddie porn; just using it as an example of what can happen to you with an unsecured wireless internet connection.
