I have decided to make a poll for the Coroner Election.
This is a private poll and no one will know who you voted for
so, vote for who you want to.

Great poll, Ranger. I agree with Easyrider that it seems most DLivers have voiced their opinions, but I am sure their are many that haven't. It will be interesting to see the results. I hope everyone will add their input! Petry 4 Life!

Keep in mind that Demopolislive members are only a portion of the voters. Even though he may win the poll here there are many that dont get on the site. So it is up to us to go out and inform the rest of the county.

I thought maybe this was the case...not of age, out of town, etc. There are so many who do not vote, even though they are eligible...I was curious to know why not? I have heard people say they don't vote because it wouldn't make a difference anyway. That is so bogus! I learned years ago, that one vote can win or lose an election, so I always vote! Regardless of who you are voting for, get out and vote...make your vote count!

Nurse L, did you move your registration when you left town? I know that's sounds like a stupid question, but a lot of people don't think to move those kind of things when they move at a young age, unless they are very political. If you didn't, you do need to register where you live, AFTER voting for Chris, of course ;)
Also, not sure exactly how the poll thing works after it has been put out there, but maybe it would be helpful to go back and redo it and put in unable to vote as an option rather than just not planning to vote. I agree, DBG, I do wonder why people choose not to vote. I get SO aggravated when I hear people say they do not plan to vote or didn't vote....and then it never fails, they are the first to complain. I have always believed, if you don't vote, you have no right to complain!

Or.... it is possible to just not vote in the coroner race. You can still vote for everything else. But those are the only three reasons I can think of for voting "I'm not voting" ... ( not voting period, out of area, or just not voting for a candidate in one office race...)

I voted. I voted once. I voted for undecided. Because as of right now, that's how I feel. It seems like the undecided people are going to play a big part in this election. I've talked to several people about the letters in the Democrat Reporter, and I've heard 5 people say that they were voting for Eatmon, and one person say they were going to vote for Petry. It just looks like it's going to be a wait and see in November, and we will have a fairly elected person for the position in November. People have heard from both sides in the Democrat and people ARE talking about this race in town, and we'll just have to see how everything works out. I say good luck to both of those running and hope that both of them do some door knocking and refrain from saying one is not going to be a good coroner because he has a job and is supporting his family... or someone saying that we need to get rid of one because he does stupid idiotic things.
Let both say what they have to offer, and let the people decide.
Anyone considered setting up a debate between the two? Seems ridiculous for a coroner's race, but it would probably make a lot of people happy to see the two side by side in a civil conversational setting. But good luck getting Eatmon to show up to that.

I find it extremely hard to believe that 80 people in the entire county would vote for Eatmon, much less 80 Demopolislive people. Anyone that has ever been around Stuart in a professional setting would NEVER support him. Stuart, if you read this....it is NEVER appropriate to talk about your family or a political race TO a family that just lost their loved one.
Only Admins and Mods can adjust a poll, and I can say I don't think any of us would mess with the numbers. That would go against what this site stands for.

Actually, that post was started, and though a few people said some bad things, there were some Petrey supporters that posted they would like to hear from Eatmon supporters. I personally would like to hear from some of them as well and hear how they feel about the race. I know they probably feel there are people here who will flame them, and some probably will, but it would be nice if we could set up a nice, flame-free discussion about the campaign for people who really want to discuss the ISSUES AT HAND and not personal issues!!

Poll adjusted to reflect actual voting #'s. I think there was a little experiment to see if a perceived close race would spark more voting. However, further poll manipulation will incur the wrath of my sword.

Is this a personal experience? or are you going on word of mouth? A lot of people have said that he talked about his political race to a family that had just lost a loved one, but for some reason they picked yours out as "clear evidence" of what everyone had been saying.
Just wondering. And if so -- sorry for your loss.

I am the other person who posted that he had talked with someone during a "coroner call." It was not with me, but it came from the nurse that was there at the time and she was totally appalled by the fact. It also happened at my nursing home with one of my resident's family members.

Living in Mississippi, I can't vote in this election, but from the posts I've read, Chris Petrey seems to be the best candidate for this position.
By the way, I've been checking out the Marengo County garbage bag liner--oops, I meant the Democrat-Reporter-- courtesy of the smalltown newspapers website. It isn't the current edition, it is from August. and I noticed while looking through an early August issue that a Billie Jo Eatmon was listed as an employee for the D-R. Any relation to the current coroner, and if so, it makes me wonder if some potential political shenanigans could be afoot. That is, if this person is still there at the D-R, and if this person has family ties with the current coroner. From my "experience" back in the 1990's with the D-R, it's like a revolving door there. Still find it hard to beleive I was able to retain my wits and other functions after leaving there--thankfully on my own terms.  :)
Anyhoo, just curious about all this.
Nonetheless, if our good and gracious Lord sees fit for Chris to win, so be it. Anything to put a bayonet prick up Goodloe's hind quarters.

Oops. I didn't mean to let that come up twice.
Let me clarify something when I made the tongue firmly planted in cheek comment about potential political shenanigans. For want of a better term, naturally.
I'm just saying if this Eatmon person is kin to the coroner and is still there at the D-R, could and does the potential for shenanigans and what not between the paper and Eatmon exist? When I saw the Eatmon name listed in the paper with the rest of the staff, it just made me wonder. There may not be anything to this.
Speaking of shenanigans... has the "esteemed editor/publisher"  of the D-R had any more encounters with the law since the time he was stopped two years ago, and said he was only drinking plain coke?
Kagan
09-29-2006, 12:52 PM
Let me put down some clarifications before I tick everyone off...
1. I don't personally care for Eatmon.
2. I don't personally know Petrey
3. In this poll, I have voted...undecided.
Those things alone should indicate that I'm looking at this issue without passion blinding me either way. I've also in my short time on this board taken time to read every "blessed" post by supporters of both men. I live in an obscure corner of this county. I joined this board as a result of the Hwy 80 accident on Tuesday simply to express my sorrow with the Marlowes, Pickels, and Lakes.
My problem with this coroner race is that I was surprised earlier in the year that no one had filed as a Democrat or a Republican to run for the office when it officially came open. Everyone knew the present coroner was a joke, but nobody wanted to run against him. Even many of Petrey's present supporters initially stated that they didn't care for Eatmon...but they couldn't complain about his job performance. That was in May 2006.
However, after the June Democratic primary, suddenly Eatmon was the most evil creature who walked the face of this earth. At first, people were asking me, "Kagan, did you hear what Stuart Eatmon did?" After telling them that I didn't know, they proceeded to tell me that he had put out signs for Richard Bates for Sheriff. I shrugged my shoulders because...truthfully...I didn't know it was illegal for a candidate in one office to openly support someone in another office. Even before Eatmon's "apology letter", Petrey...apparently under peer pressure...was placed on the November ballot as an independent.
Like I said above, I don't know Mr. Petrey. But, I do question whether he truly wanted to run for coroner. If he did? Why didn't he run against Eatmon in the primary? I personally know some of his strongest supporters. They really changed their tune about Eatmon doing a good job in just one day...all because he put out signs for another candidate? Or was there something more?
To reiterate, I don't care for Eatmon because I do know him personally. However, why was he elected in the first place? I didn't vote for him! Who did and why? As I recall, he ran against a previous coroner's son.
Hmmm...Strange it seems that the same issue that got him elected may be connected to why many people are complaining about him now.
If someone in this race doesn't take a high road out of mudslinging (both sides have done it - Mr Petrey is apparently clean but his supporters are not), I will exercise my right to write-in a qualified individual. Yes, that person may only get my vote, but I will have a clear conscious about it. I did this four years ago on the governor's election because I didn't want Riley or Siegleman...I felt good all the way through Riley's tax hike campaign.
Daddy'sBabyGirl
09-29-2006, 16:18 PM
Kagan, I can promise you my husband does nothing out of "peer pressure." If he didn't want this position and feel like he could do the job compassionately and effectively, he wouldn't be running.
As far as the mudslinging, we can't help that other people don't like Eatmon and point out his weaknesses, however, you will not find one thing my husband has said bad about him. If he can't win this election on his own merits, then he just will not win, and we can live with ourselves knowing that we haven't gone around talking bad about someone!!!
