MONTGOMERY - The Christian Coalition of Alabama claims allegiance with heaven, but a Montgomery lawmaker on Monday told the group's leader to go some place warm and fiery.
Rep. Alvin Holmes, D-Montgomery, responding to the group's annual political questionnaire, asked the Coalition President John Giles to first answer questions about casino-interest money the group received and other matters.
"Until you answer these three questions, Go straight to hell," Holmes wrote Holmes signed the letter "Peace be with you."
Efforts to reach Giles Monday evening were unsuccessful.
The Christian Coalition does an annual survey polling members of the Alabama Legislature about their views on abortion, gambling, same-sex marriage and other matters.
Holmes said the Christian Coalition survey was hypocritical considering past news reports that gambling interests funded some of their anti-gambling work.
Holmes said he wanted the coalition to:
Reveal its sources of income.
Disclose if it received any money from Ralph Reed or convicted lobbyist Michael Scanlon to lobby against gambling in Alabama.
Explain why the group opposed a bill that would require nonprofits to reveal sources of income if they do election advertising.
E-mails released by a Senate committee last year showed Washington lobbyist Jack Abramoff solicited money from the Choctaw Indians and routed $850,000 of it to the Christian Coalition of Alabama during a bitter legislative fight over video poker in 2000.
Giles has said he was unaware that the tribe was the source of the money, which was funneled through a third organization.
Reed repeatedly assured the coalition that the money was not from gambling interests, Giles said last year.
Oh how we danced and we swallowed the nights for it was all ripe for dreaming
Oh how we danced away all of the lights we've always been out of our minds
I am not a subscriber to the christian coalition of Alabama but comparing them to Alvin Holmes is not possible for me. Holmes is as pure a racist as I have know of and doesn't deserve comment.
I don't think that it is unfounded to take pleasure out of one person you despise completely lambasting another person (or group) that you despise, particularly when it is as well founded as Holmes calling out the ACC on their hypocrisy.

The following member(s) say Thank You to demopolite for this post:
It seems that the ACC has responded to Holmes by saying "Well, yer just a leebral..."
Uh...yeah. That has EVERYTHING to do with whether you took money from Abramoff and the Indian casinos.
....jackass...
As much as it will make fleming cringe, I have to say that I hope the rest of our legislators get a little intestinal fortitude and start challenging the ACC Holmes-style.

I hope the rest of the legislature will get the intestinal fortitude to challenge "double dippers" like Holmes that work for the state and legislate it too. We are in the middle of the nepotism, etc. battle with the Jr. College system and that is nothing compared to this guy's historic antics. Let's see where his money comes from and to whence it goes! Does the media dare challenge Holmes and bring the likes of Jessie and crew down on Alabama?

You know me....I want them all indicted.

As long as legislator is a part time job, we will have Reps and Sens that work for state agencies. If you could get elected one of the 2 year or 4 year colleges would offer you some type of job. I don't see much difference in a legislator working for the state and legislator that works in the insurance industry serving on the business and commerce committee. Both have influence over legislation that affects their lively hood and will act in their self interest.
