Mr. Fleming was a native of South Carolina and a resident of Demopolis where he had served as a City councilman, on the board of the Demopolis Chamber of Commerce, and the Demopolis Airport Committee. Mr. Fleming was a member of the Demopolis First United Methodist Church, a member of the P.P.M.A. (Professional Photographer's Association of Alabama and America), he served in the United States Air Force from 1957-1960, and he was the owner of Fleming Photography in Demopolis.

James Fleming's affinity for the heavens also led him to an interest in meteorology. Fleming helped bring about the Noah Weather Tower, located just south of the city. He was also a weather watcher for regional news stations and for DemopolisLive.

James Fleming's varied interests also extended to his becoming a member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary, for whom he taught classes.

A native of Pacolet, S.C., James Fleming married the former Anne Jones in 1963. Two years later, the Flemings moved to Demopolis, at which time he went to work selling cars for his father-in-law at Lloyd Jones Chevrolet.

For 18 years he put area people in new and new-to-them vehicles. For 43 years, he developed friendships and made a lasting impact on this area.

Survivors include his wife, Anne Jones Fleming of Demopolis; one daughter, Rebecca Blanchard and her husband, Keith, of Lake Mary, Fla.; one son, Rob Fleming and his wife, Beth, of Demopolis; four grandchildren, Alex Fleming of Demopolis, Alan Blanchard, Nicholas Blanchard and Jenna Blanchard, all of Lake Mary, Fla.

DEMOPOLIS | Robert Michael Solliday, 51 of 1307 Mason Ridge Drive, died March 9, 2004 at South Fulton County Hospital, Atlanta, Ga. Services will be held 11am Friday at Kidd-Robbins Funeral Directors of Demopolis. President Michael Alter will officiate. Burial will follow in Demopolis Memorial Gardens. Visitation is tonight from 6-8 at the funeral home. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service. Kidd-Robbins Funeral Directors of Demopolis is directing.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Vernon Solliday.

Survivors are his wife, Judy Green Solliday, Demopolis; four sons, Robert Michael (Ginger) Solliday, Jr. Demopolis, Daniel Joseph (Allison) Solliday, Pensacola, Fla., James Spencer (Angie) Solliday, Belmont, Ala, Samuel Riley Solliday, Demopolis, Ala.; four sisters, two brothers and four grandchildren.

He was a member of the church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He was an employee of Cemex inc. in Demopolis.

DEMOPOLIS | Joseph Francis Stegall, beloved husband, father and grandfather, died on July 23, 2006 at Bryan W. Whitfield Memorial Hospital in Demopolis. A memorial service will be held at Trinity Episcopal Church in Demopolis on Thursday, July 27, at 11 a.m. The family will receive friends at 10 a.m. at the Trinity Episcopal Church parish hall. Burial will be held at Arlington National Cemetery with Kidd-Robbins Funeral Directors of Demopolis directing.

Colonel Stegall is survived by his wife, Eleanor; sons, Frank (Janet), Allen (Debbie), Dan (Debra), Bryan (Barbara), and Jeff (Buffie); brothers, Hugh (Carole) of Tuscaloosa, John (Nelle) of Cuba, and Karl (Brenda) of Montgomery; and grandchildren, Hunter, Grayson, Tyler, Alex, Tom, Anne, and Benton Stegall.

Colonel Stegall, 75, was born and reared in Emelle, Ala. He attended Alabama Polytechnic Institute, now Auburn University, and upon graduation, was commissioned an officer in the United States Air Force.

While at Auburn, Colonel Stegall was a member of the Delta Tau Delta social fraternity, the Tau Beta Pi engineering fraternity and the Omicron Delta Kappa leadership fraternity. Later in life, he was a Rotarian and a Paul Harris Fellow.

Colonel Stegall served as an aeronautical engineer and pilot in the Air Force. During the mid-1960s, the Air Force loaned then-Captain Stegall to NASA at Houston, Texas, where he was involved in astronaut training for the Gemini space program. Later, in the Vietnam War, he was a reconnaissance pilot and logged over 200 combat missions in that conflict. Upon his return from Vietnam, Colonel Stegall was stationed at Andrews AFB, Md. and the Pentagon. He served over 22 years in the Air Force where he was awarded several commendations including the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Air Medal, and the Legion of Merit. Upon his retirement in 1976, Colonel Stegall purchased and operated family businesses at Emelle.

Colonel Stegall was elected Tax Assessor of Sumter County in 1978, and served as President of the Alabama Tax Assessors and Collectors Association. After serving one term as a tax assessor, he was elected Mayor of York. Colonel Stegall was reelected twice as Mayor of York. He retired from that position in 1995 and moved to Demopolis where he spent the remainder of his life in the company of his friends and family.
